Overview

Indirect speech is a challenging topic because the tense of the affected verb(s) is governed by intricate grammar rules. We shall see, however, that the English and Spanish languages are similar to each other in this regard. The chapter starts with a summary of the rules for English before the Spanish estilo indirecto is covered to some detail. The last section illustrates a generalization of indirect speech called consecutio temporum. Throughout the chapter we will have opportunity to exercise all grammatical tenses and moods covered in previous chapters.

This chapter is complete but has not been made public because it needs to be reviewed by a native Spanish speaker first. If you would like to help out, contact the author.
